SEE Keira Knightley in domestic violence campaign
By Kate Matharu on Friday 3 April 2009
Keira Knightley is fronting a new ad campaign for charity Women’s Aid, in a bid to raise awareness of domestic violence.
The hard-hitting film, entitled Cut, is directed by BAFTA-winning Pride and Prejudice director Joe Wright and sees Keira arrive home from a film set to discover an angry and abusive partner waiting for her.
The scene that unfolds is a brutal attack, followed by a closing statement that reads ‘Isn’t it time someone called cut?’

Speaking of her appearance and drive to back the domestic violence campaign, Keira commented: 'I wanted to take part in this advert for Women's Aid because while domestic violence exists in every section of society, we rarely hear about it.
‘We may not think we know someone who has experienced domestic violence, but this does not mean that it is not happening. Domestic violence affects one in four women at some point in their lifetime and kills two women every week.
She added: ‘Without the services provided by Women's Aid, many more women could be at risk of being killed, yet without donations the charity may not exist this time next year. Please donate £2 a month to Women's Aid to help save lives.’
Nicola Harwin, CEO of Women’s Aid responded to the A-lister’s performance saying: ‘We are so grateful to both Joe Wright and Keira Knightley for donating their time to make this public awareness advert. We hope the Women's Aid campaign will both increase public awareness of domestic violence, letting abused women and their families and friends know that there is help out there.’

As a survivor of domestic violence, this ad made me cry and flinch but is very effective. Please keep up the battle! Thank you Keira for such a moving ad that was so incredible.

I am a victim of domestic violence I spent months making up a web of lies to cover all the injuries, every accident you name it I lied about it, I fell down the stairs, I was mugged, I slipped in the bath I even laughed with my friends at how unlucky I was. I was a good actor.
I still don't understand even now how I let it happen to me I am not a weak person, I am not argumentative or agressive I come from a well adjusted loving family. I am well educated I teach special needs.
I knew what domestic violence was. I just could not believe it was hapenning to me. I lied to those closest I lied to my sister, my mum my dad but most of all I lied to myself.
Watching that video brought it all back. We need to talk about this more. No more will I be a victim we should all learn to fight back.

I think it is high time men are brought to justice for the way they treat women ,and women should take action on these men.

DV is not only about being battered - silent treatment, meals thrown at walls, swearing and being told repeatedly "you are stupid/a slag/a cow" etc. Tell someone!
