PICS: Rihanna's new gun tattoo
By Ruth Doherty on Thursday 26 March 2009
Considering her recent alleged ordeal of domestic assault, a tattoo of a gun might be the last thing you'd expect Rihanna to have etched on her body.
But the young pop star yesterday revealed her new body art, which is located on her ribcage.
The singer, who has often be snapped wearing a gun-pendant necklace, vsited LA-based tattoo artist BangBang, who initially drew two guns on either side of the tops of her arms.
But the singer decided against having the weapons inked on such a prominent position because of her contract with make-up giant Cover Girl.
BangBang wrote on his website: 'I really wanted to put it here [on her arms]… She loved 'em. But, Cover Girl wouldn’t have liked it much… and they pay the bills!'
He added: 'Ended up doing it on her ribs.'
Rihanna already has a host of other tattoos, including a collection of stars plunging down her back, a music note on her ankle and a Pisces sign behind her right ear.
She also has a star inside her left ear, a Sanskrit prayer going down the hip, the word Shhh... down her index finger – which Lily Allen also sports - and a tribal pattern on her right hand.

How stupid with all the gun/knife crime going on this tattoo is terrible...She is a pop star that many young people look up to. She is trying to look like a bad girl ganster..just like her abusive boyfriend who not long ago battered her..Nice don't think so

I think it's awful. I really feel that the RnB music scene is largely to blame for the gang culture in our (and American) society, but I wouldn't have thought a female artist (as sexist as that might sound)to endorse it like this. There are a million other things that she could have had tatooed, the fact of the matter is that guns are solely for hurting people, and it's disgusting that they should be such an icon.

Not the kind of message she should be giving out to kids........

I think it's about time Cover Girl dropped her. She should know better than to show support for a weapon. Young people are so easily influenced. I certainly would be disgusted if she countinued to work for Cover Girl.

I read that she wanted a gun tattoo and that it represented 'strength'. How stupid is that? What does strenght have to do with guns?

I don't get it...a handgun is nothing but a symbol of violence against other human beings, it has no place in society. She should be ashamed of herself and her lousy tattoo.
