Cheryl lights up 10 Downing Street
By Ruth Doherty on Friday 13 March 2009
Prime Minister Gordon Brown couldn’t keep the smile off his face as Cheryl Cole and the Kilimanjaro climbing crew visited him at No. 10 Downing Street yesterday.
Cheryl was beaming, too, and back to her beautiful best after ditching make-up and glamorous clothes for the eight-day trek.
The Girl Aloud looked gorgeous in a cream Alexander McQueen pencil dress and tan Rupert Sanderson heels ensemble, which she livened up with so-hot-for-spring coral earrings from Kenneth Jay Lane.
Alesha Dixon brought a flash of colour to the meeting in a cobalt-blue minidress, while Kimberley Walsh donned a chic black frock and tights.
The Prime Minister pledged £2 million of Government funding to top up the £1.5 million already donated by the public to the BT Red Nose charity climb.
He announced the donation would go towards a malaria project in Tanzania as he chatted to members of the climb team.
Chris Moyles yesterday went on This Morning to talk about the climb, and, discussing his fellow climbers, he said: ‘Gary was funny although not always deliberately! Ronan [Keating] was great, and Ben Shephard was lovely; I didn't know him well before.
‘Ben always tried to go to the toilet twice a day before breakfast! I was more of an afternoon man.
‘Cheryl doesn't go to the bathroom, she's like the Queen, she just glides through the mountains! She spent the first three days moaning, and then said “I'm sick of the sound of my own voice, all I'm doing is whinging.”
'It would be funny when she irritated herself. But we all picked each other up when it was needed. We had a good laugh, but it was really really tough.’

why do you always say Cheryl Cole and her team, all the others are as important as she is, sorry but it really winds me up that it makes it sound that she is better than the rest, correct me if im wrong i thought it was Gary Barlow that got the team together

Why is it always about Cheryl Cole?? She's not the only Girls aloud band member and she wasn't the only one to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Sure Ashley cheated on her but hey get over it! Anyway congrats to them all for finishing the climb and raising all the money.

EXACTLY! I am SO sick of hearing about her! Kudos for getting up Killi, but seriously, what else she ever really done, other than be sickeningly pretty? And WHY were tere 2 Girls Alud members in the team? One is more than enough - 2 is just stupid.

I'm sick of cocky Cole. She is not the only one that climbed the mountain, there were other celebs that did so and seemingly for more genuine reasons (i.e. they actually care about the cause) as oppose to Cole who as far as I'm concerned just did it as another publicity seeking venture.

I really enjoyed watching the programme and thought the celebraties did really well. However my thoughts were with the 'porters' the local men who carried the celebraties' belongings and set up camp for them - as each stage was completed the celebraties came into a ready prepared camp. There was no mention of the porter's difficulties with altitude, and their suffering.
