Diddy right to lend Brown house
By Ruth Doherty on Wednesday 11 March 2009
P Diddy has defended his decision to open his Miami home to Rihanna and Chris Brown in the aftermath of his alleged assault on the pop star.
‘It was a dark time for them and I was there as more of a support,’ the music mogul said during an interview on the Ellen DeGeneres Show.
‘I'm not immersed in [their situation]. I'm not going to pass judgment on it. I'm going to be there as a friend.’
The music mogul was initially defensive about his reasons for inviting the two to his Star Island home. (Brown was photographed jet skiing near the house, prompting criticism of his seemingly carefree behaviour in light of the serious accusations.)
‘It's my house, and I'm allowed to give my house to whoever I want to give my house to,’ he insisted. ‘I don't cast a stone – cast judgment on anybody. So, if friends ask me for a favour, then I'm going to be there for a favour as long as I know the energy of the favour is positive.’
The rapper also indicated that no one really knows exactly what happened between the couple, and people shouldn’t jump to conclusions.
‘We don't know exactly what's going on. There are two young individuals [involved]. We need to pray for them.’
But the slick-as-oil star did say he didn’t agree with physical violence.
‘I don't think it's right for anybody to hit anybody.’
