Lily Allen was snapped leaving her hairdressers today, sporting a shorter, sharper, more sensible hairstyle.

The Smile singer has swapped her long glossy locks with trademark fringe, for a, well – how can we put this nicely? – a middle-aged makeover.

Lily, 23, left her hairdressers in Notting Hill looking distinctly mumsy. Instead of a full head of straight shiny hair, Lily has gone for a shorter, choppy look that looks a little Lady Diana.

OK, the wind was blowing when she stepped out of the stylists, which is never a great look, but we hope Lily was just doing what so many of us do when we leave the salon.

Inside you tell your stylist you 'love' your new look, but then run straight to the nearest toilets and try to re-do it under a handdryer.

Perhaps the outspoken singer is just trying to save money on straighteners and hair products?

She told the Daily Record she has sold her £35,000 BMW 320 convertible because she is struggling financially due to the credit crunch.

'I had to sell my car because I'm so broke. I bought it last year and that was probably my biggest extravagance. Clothes, too. I'm always buying clothes,' she said.

why do women cut their hair short why why why. Posh looks awful and i think only old women should cut their hair to look younger. Dont chop the barnet men prefer long hair, trust me i am one.

Preferred the long hair look, much cuter. She looks like a mum now. Think she needs to get a pair of straighters on it asap!

Sal, all due respect but its plainly obvious you do it for yourselves. No man i know likes girl to have short hair. Do you buy nice clothes to impress other guys, girls or for yourself? Do you get your hair cut short for guys, girls or just for yourself? Just wondering....!

Dont get me wrong there is always the exception (And i'm sure if you have your hair short it looks wonderful) but more often than not its not really a good look. Its kinda boyish to have short hair, dont you think? Its not much fun either, long hair you can style when you go out to match your outfit but short hair.....what do you do? Gel? Hairspray? I dunno, maybe its just me but 2 of the the comments added say the short hair has made her look old too.....

Attractive women look better with long hair. I'm not sure why women are so dense on this issue. It'd be like a man complaining that women require him to be confident to get a date!
