Marianne Faithfull: Kate Moss stole my style

Kate Moss and Marianne Faithfull

Marianne Faithfull has lashed out at Kate Moss, calling her a ‘vampire’ who stole her style.

The 60s icon said the former firm friends have fallen out and no longer spend any time together.

‘She's not really my friend. I thought she was, but she's very clever,' she said.

'She wanted to read me like a Braille book. And she did. It's a vampirical thing.'

In an interview with The Times, Faithfull, 62 – who famously dated Mick Jagger in the 60s – says the supermodel based her ‘look’ on Marianne’s own lifestyle.

'Now I see pictures of her with a boy who looks like Mick Jagger, and her looking like me. So there was a reason. It's one of her gigs to do me,' she said.

Kate is currently dating The Kills’ lead singer Jamie Hince.

Faithfull also took a swipe at Kate’s intelligence, saying the Croydon-born supermodel is uneducated.

‘She's very clever, but she isn't at all educated. We don't have any [common] references. Except music,’ she said.

Kate and Faithfull used to be regulars on the London party circuit and even went on holiday together to the Bahamas. But the older icon says their relationship ‘finished’ some time after.

‘You know, it's OK. I don't give a s***. But I was quite offended at the time. We were very fond of each other. And then it suddenly soured,' she said.

It is extremely flattering for someone to think so highly of you that they want to copy your style. Marianne should stop grousing and start gloating.

The women Moss has tried so hard to emulate - Marianne Faithfull and anita Pallenberg - were and are icons. They were unlike any other women (in London) of their time - not only utterly gorgeous, but cultured, well, read, enlightened, questing, bold, multi-lingual, exotic, intellectual, captivating, and above all, educated. Do you think Moss has ever heard of Bulgakov, or read Hesse? That' s a laugh. She has nothing of intellect to offer, and she's emulating women she can't even begin to understand.
If she really wants to pay homage to Anita and Marianne, she should visit an art gallery, or take in a lecture..
Or read a book. All the way through. (and i don'tmean the Tao of Pooh).

I never thought that Kate Moss looked anything like Marianne Faithful in her style or way of expression. The only similarity I can think of is that they are both glamorous rock girls who have dated iconic men. I wouldn't like to comment on Kate Moss's inteligence as I don't know her, but she has dated some famously intelligent men such as Johnny Depp, Jefferson Hack and Jamie Hince who is a fiercely talented musician. I think there must be something more to her if she's managed to ensnare some of the world's most interesting and talanted men. Also, just because she is uneducated it doesn't mean she isn't intelligent. For all we know she might have read some Bulghakov or Tolstoy...weirder things have happened. I like Kate Moss as a style icon and a woman of mistery. Also, you can learn and appreciate a lot in Tao of Pooh. You don't have to know The Master and Margharita off by heart to be considered smart...and I'm sure she said in an interview that one of her favourite books was The Great Gatsby, so unless she's lying (again could be, but at least she's heard of the book), I say good choice of book to her.
