PICS: Brown charged with assault

Chris Brown in court in LA

Chris Brown had his day in court yesterday – and was charged with assault following the ‘brutal argument’ which left girlfriend Rihanna with shocking facial injuries.

Brown appeared at the Superior Court of Los Angeles County to answer charges of assault likely to cause great bodily injury and making criminal threats.

Rihanna is allegedly said to have told police she will not testify against him but, according to Californian law, an individual can still be charged with domestic violence even without the victim’s co-operation.

If convicted, the possible sentence ranges from probation to four years and eight months imprisonment.

Gory details of the 8 February fight were also leaked from a detective’s affidavit.

The couple reportedly got into a fight after the Umbrella singer found a three-page text message from another woman on Brown’s mobile phone.

Brown pulled his car over and tried to push Rihanna out, but she was still wearing her seatbelt, Los Angeles Police Detective De Shon Andrews wrote.

He said Brown then pushed Rihanna's head against the window, punched her with his right hand, and continued driving while hitting her, the affidavit states. According to the affidavit, he also bit her on the ear.

Brown then allegedly threatened to kill Rihanna after she pretended to leave a phone message with her assistant, telling her to have the police waiting at her house.

Andrews described Brown's blows as causing Rihanna's mouth to fill with blood. He also writes that Brown tried to choke Rihanna after she took the keys to his car away.

Andrews wrote that Rihanna nearly lost consciousness but also tried to fight back while in the car, at one point trying to gouge at Brown's eyes.

Brown and Rihanna recently enjoyed a reunion in Miami, and this week flew back to LA together, where they checked into the Beverly Wiltshire.

If he's attacked her once, he'll do it again. For God's sake Rihanna, wake up before it's too late!

Unfortunately this happens. Battered women often return to their perpetrators - sometime many times- before finally finding the strength to part permanently. That's why it is good that charges can be brought without the assistance of the victim when necessary. I wish her well, but I fear it will happen again. Maybe next time she will realise that it is never right to be battered.

Just proves again that money can't buy you class

I can't believe she would 'reunite' with him after such a vicious attack. What kind of message does that send to her fans, hey its ok if your boyfriend hits you. Not to mention showing that she has no self respect. She's not trapped financially or has kids with this man. She is an international star but is showing such low self esteem!

I've lost all respect for her now. What an absolute idiot.

Rihanna is stupid for reuniting with him after what he did. It was appauling behaviour and he had no right do to such a thing!! But I guess it's Rhianna's life so she makes her decisions.

im a school teacher, and last week was told by a 13 year old boy that 'Chris Brown is so cool, Miss, even though he beat up Rihanna she still wants to stay with him. Thats cool'
Look at the message you're putting out there, both of you are role models, whether you deserve it or not.
