Carla Bruni to adopt?

Carla Bruni, the First Lady of France, has revealed she plans to adopt with husband and President, Nicolas Sarkozy, if she is unable to have more children.

In a candid interview with Figaro Magazine the former supermodel turned singer said: ‘I would like (to have a baby with my husband), but I don’t know it at my age it would be possible.’

The 41-year-old explained: ‘If it’s not biologically possible, I’ll adopt one. Adoption is perhaps the purist form of motherhood.’

Bruni already has one son, 7, with the philosopher Raphael Enthoven. Meanwhile the French President has three sons from two previous marriages.

She explained that she is ‘not obsessed by blood ties’ saying, ‘I think you can build a powerful bond without that.’

‘So I'd love to have a child, but I'm not going to fight against nature, and at the same time, as I already have one, and my husband has three, you can't really say we have a need of children,’ she said.

The former super has also addressed criticism that her husband is less culturally-minded than she is. Bruni refuted claims that she has more academic tastes than Sarkozy.

‘There is this stereotype about the Right in general and my husband in particular: that they lack culture,’ she said.

‘The truth is that my husband spends all his free time reading,’ said Bruni. And it’s not lightweight bed-time musings either.

‘He is currently working his way through books by the philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre, the 19th century novelist Alexandre Dumas and the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius,’ she said.

Please don't tell me she wants to adopt a child from Africa. I am sure there are loads of French children waiting to be adopted.
