How to get into ...

Gwyneth defends Goop

Gwyneth Paltrow has defended her lifestyle website Goop – saying that people who are criticising it 'just don't get it'.

The online site, which has the tagline 'Nourish the Inner Aspect', offers an insight into Gwynnie's world, and gives her advice on everything from dieting to which restaurants to eat at.

But the site has not gone down well with everyone (although we're addicted!).

At a charity event in NY, Bent On Learning, hosted by Gwyneth, she said: 'I think the people who are criticizing it or criticizing the idea of it, don't really get it, because if they did, they would like it...'

Paltrow said she believes some of the barbs simply stem from the fact that she's doing something new and different.

'I think that people like people to stay in their 'box' - they like people to stay how they are comfortable seeing them.'

She also explained why she set up the site, revealing it was 'because I felt like I had a lot of really useful information that I was privileged enough to get, because I have this amazing, super, fortunate life.'

Therein may well lie the problem, Gwyneth!

But we can't get enough of her updates, and the latest newsletter details which cafés in Paris should be on your must-eat-at list.

Here's a snippet:

l'Ami Louis
32, rue du Vertbois
3e
+33 1 48 87 77 48
There are two schools of thought regarding l'Ami Louis: one is that it is an overpriced place for tourists and the other is that it is one of the best, most venerable bistros in Paris. I am firmly in the school of the latter. It is small and wood paneled with an ancient oven and a sicko wine list. Every time I go, I see a former French president or the like, and I leave so full that I walk back to the hotel.

Le Voltaire
27, Quai Voltaire
7e
+33 1 42 61 17 49
Le Voltaire is a lovely place on the river with a lighter type of French fare (grapefruit and avocado salad). It is one of my favorite spots to go for lunch.

Market
15, Avenue Matignon

From superchef Jean-Georges, this restaurant serves Asian/nouvelle French cuisine done wonderfully and served in a clean, contemporary space.

Kinugawa
9, rue du Mont-Thabor

After a couple of days in Paris when I need to lay off the butter and goose fat, I head to Kinugawa for a Japanese lunch. After a lovely bowl of miso soup, some beautiful sashimi and a seaweed salad, I am ready to partake in all things French once more.

T'CHA La Maison de Thé
6, rue du Pont de Lodi
6e
+33 1 43 29 61 31
This is a little teahouse off the beaten track in the sixth arrondissement. It is a great place for a light lunch or a perfect cup of sencha.

Shame on the New York Times for being so surface. If anyone else had written this blog they, would praise it, but because Gweneth wrote it - attacking ensues. The blog is positive, giving recipes, reccommending restaurants, and even sharing about her personal life. She even has a downloadable video for your ipod of the exercise she uses to get her but in shape. Seriously - this is all of the best things that we love to read in all the magazines we pay to read about it in - except it's not charge. I applaud her efforts and look forward to reading more.

Heck , don't people love to criticise.Gwyneth isn't selling anything or preaching anything ,she's just passing on some of the good stuff , Let her have her voice. No adverts , no registering ,just sharing , what a joy.

Goop is a warm sincere blog that really does provide useful info and ideas. Gwyneth generously opens her life to her readers and offers us the opportunity to 'do make go see' to places that tourist books may never mention. Critics are simply jealous. Yes, she does have a fortunate life. But so do I! healthy, happy, working.. I'm not a celebrity but do appreciate culture, new books and the chance to share new experiences with friends. I applaud Gwyneth for her fresh honesty.

I have to admit to being the same as the NY Times regarding Goop, I kind of thought 'Get a life Gwynnie, who do you think you are?' But then I had a look and it was in January when she was giving people the opportunity to do the same detox as her..no I didn't do it but I may well go back AND do it one day. I genuinely believe that she was indeed doing the same herself that week and the advice and diet tips she gives are very, very good. It's free and, yes she is privileged but she does this becuase I think she is just a nice person. It has changed the way I look at Gwyneth Paltrow entirely....still not keen on Chris though and I will NEVER like Coldplay haha but well done, Gwynnie, credit where it's due.
