SHOCK PIC: Rihanna's injuries
By Ruth Doherty on Friday 20 February 2009
The internet has gone into a frenzy over a picture reportedly showing the injuries Rihanna sustained after her boyfriend Chris Brown allegedly assaulted her.
LA police launched an internal investigation last night after the graphic photos were leaked onto the web.
‘The photograph has the appearance of one taken during an official domestic violence investigation,’ says a police statement. ‘The Los Angeles Police Department takes seriously its duty to maintain the confidentiality of victims of domestic violence.'
The close-up picture shows a young woman with cuts and bruises to her forehead, lips and cheeks, and is believed to be Rihanna after her alleged bust-up with Chris Brown on 8 February, just hours before they were scheduled to perform at the Grammy Awards.
Brown, who released a statement saying he was ‘sorry and saddened’ about what transpired, was arrested on a criminal threat charge.
A report on perezhilton.com suggests that Brown is also being investigated for assault resulting in great bodily harm, and even attempted murder, based on Brown’s reported threat to kill Rihanna, followed by an alleged strangling until she passed out.

You dont even know if thats her. Its funny that people dont even know what happened. all they know is that he hit her. Know one even knows what she did. People are so quick to jump on sides. Get the whole story first.

Tim, in other words, his barbaric cowardly act could be justified? How many women have you beaten? How often did you witness domestic violence?! Please. He's an out of control lunatic. A man walks away, a coward hits, runs and hides.
Comment by noexcuses on February 20 14:21
No matter what she 'did', he had no right to thump her. It will be interesting to see if they stay together after this
Comment by Lou on February 20 14:30
Sorry, but assault IS ASSAULT! Mr. Brown get your act together. ANYone who has to resort to slugging someone else to get their rocks off is a COWARD!!
And that goes to you too Tim Brown, defending an assault is shameful. Did Chris Brown have any cuts or bruising? I think not.
Comment by c on February 20 14:51
He hit her, Tim. That's all you need to know. There is never any excuse for that.
By the way Tim, you should check your grammar and spelling.

But just a thing, me myself, I think that Chris Brown is more of a image guy. But, I am not claiming that he didnt hit her or anything, cause obviously he did, but the media and the people are exaggerating the whole thing. I am a woman, and I know this for sure, no men hits, or anyone in that matter, no one hits another person, if for no reason. A major reason. Sure, call him a lunatic, but he is a human, humans makes mistakes, and he is kind of violent, and rihanna obviously pushed him over the edge. But hey, as said, we dont know the whole story, yet!
Comment by behinditall on February 20 15:12
Tim, you have said it all "all they know is that he hit her"!That is never acceptable behaviour regardless of what the whole story is!
Comment by EM on February 20 15:12
I can tell you plenty of men hit women for no reason. And even if there is a 'reason' you NEVER hit people. We have brains, use them, and walk away if you can't talk it out.

Having been on the receiving end of many a beating from my EX-husband, I can say there is NO reason for anyone to hit their partner. No matter what occurred between Rihanna and Chris Brown he had no right to hit her, he is just a Neanderthal coward. The same goes for anyone hitting their partner it's never justified and it's never right.

An intelligent human being is able to discuss a problem, not just smack someone in the face. There are no two sides to a story when a man hits a woman.
I spent a few years in a violent relationshp and the fact that I would get get hit because of other men talking to me says it all. It wasn't like I was flirting with other men, I just was not allowed to be attractive to another human being.
Comment by Sheenagh on February 20 18:47
This situation is as predictable as it is regrettable. 44% of all students will have been in an abusive relationship by the time they graduate from college.
FORTY-FOUR percent!
As reprehensible as Mr. Brown's actions are, hopefully it will help to increase awareness of this problem. The week prior to this assault was National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week but little mention was made of it in the mainstream media.
Protect yourself and those you care about by sharing the information about Teen Dating Violence.
Three years ago, on February 15, 2006 my 18-year-old honor student daughter was murdered by her ex-boyfriend. It's too late to save her, but hopefully not too late to save those close to you.

all you people trying to defend a man who hits women sicken me.....no man should ever hit a woman for any reason, THE END!!!

Lovely to hear you all being so caring and supportive towards her.
I am sure it is not just her fame which make you all so sympathetic towards her. So, what have you all done to support your own communities and the domestic violence which occurs there?
I feel really sorry for her but, we should all learn from our outraged feelings and DO SOMETHING TO MAKE IT STOP !!!
Comment by Morven on February 20 21:44
I feel that this is a fake photo, I don't think men should hit women, but i don't think that men put all that on her face, how can you look like this one week and on your birthday you don't have any bruises on your face, if it was that bad like everyone has seen, those marks and bumps would still be on her.I think that photo is fake!

Tim has a point but... You all have a point too... We don't know what she did.. and I have heard and know a few women who'll use the fact that we men will get arrested to their advantage.. I've even seen women provoke men into hitting them.. It's truly pathetic.. I don't care what you all have to say about me... Brown is a human.. He knew better.. but people sin everyday... no one is perfect... The world is viewing this case as if he jumped on an innocent woman.. we dont know that and they are both still young... the truth has not been revealed.. But we cannot take sides... Chris was very wrong for what he did but we dont know if Ms Fenty provoked him or not.. Put yourself in that situation and you'll see what I mean.. you guys act like celebrities are godly.. Im soo sick of it... its pathetic... Since they can sing and dance... they are god-like WRONG.. they make mistakes just like you and I... The man was clearly in the wrong.. I hope he learns from his mistake.. and moves on.. as for her... I'm glad nothing serious happened.. I hope she learns from her experience too.. and they both move on... ( one question.. lol.. how is the world gonna feel when they get back together? lol.. yall gonna feel stupid.. haha.. sorry for the looooong comment..

What a terrible thing to happen to Rihanna, Chris Brown is stupid because that boy had talent and has thrown that all away! Chris is wrong for what he did! Rihanna appernetly needs SURGERY to make things okay. I hope Rihanna is okay and that picture is horrifying.
Even if there was a reason there was no need to savagely attack her!!! Oh yeah, Tim Brown, he hit, bit and God knows what else he did to Rihanna, know one should be a victim of that type of violence !!

Any man that can imagine there would be a reason for domestic violence is living on another planet. Men like that find a reason to do it and you would only need to do something as trivial as not having tea ready or having misplaced a cushion on the settee and they will use it as an excuse. I know someone who went through this. These men are sick in the head full stop.
Comment by Melle on February 21 10:43
I agree with Tim Brown...The attack is real and disgraceful!!! But, this is an alleged photo of Rihanna, we don't know the full extent of her injuries or bruising. So far, i haven't heard anything bad about Chris Brown's character but i have heard alot about Rihanna's mouthy and rude attitude.
Has any one stopped to think whether, Rihanna started with the assaulting first.Men don't report that sort of thing.
No excuse for beating still!
Comment by bola o'sullivan on February 21 11:39
If you have taken the time to notice the tattoo on her shoulder (in the original whole picture), this is obviously Rhianna. People who cause any physical or psychological harm to any other human being should never be let off the hook. Yes, maybe there is a story behind it, maybe somebody pissed somebody off. But in that lies the problem itself, it is never ever under any circumstances any excusable reason to choose violence as a way out. No matter who you are. Or what happened. Violence is never an option. Ever.
Comment by Synne on February 22 02:12
Quite Frankly this boy is a disgrace and should never work again as punishment. Everything his image portrayed was a lie anyway so yeah, "Goodbye Chris Brown may your career rest in peace"!
