Madonna asks Queen’s permission for new movie role

Marie Claire News: Madonna

Madonna has written to the Queen to ask her permission to make a film about the former Prince of Wales and his affair with Wallis Simpson.

Her Madgesty reportedly has her heart set on starring as Wallis, whose affair with King Edward VIIIthe Queen’s uncle – sparked a royal crisis when he abdicated the throne to marry her.

It is said Madonna ‘sees similarities’ between herself and the twice-divorced Simpson, as they were both from the US and married Englishmen.

Madonna is said to be so keen on playing the role, she has researched it extensively, even covering a wall of her home with articles on the socialite.

A friend told The Sun: ‘Madonna sees Wallis Simpson as her next big project. She is as passionate about it as she was about playing Eva Peron in Evita.

'Madonna said she is fascinated about this American commoner who refused to conform or offer explanations for her tangled love life.'

Just months into his reign in 1936, Edward caused a constitutional crisis when he proposed to Wallis.

Wallis Simpson and the Duke of Windsor-

Although he could legally have remained king, the Prime Minister opposed the union, arguing the nation would never accept Wallis as queen.

Rather than give her up, Edward chose to abdicate, making him the only monarch of Britain to have voluntarily relinquished his throne.

He said in a radio interview: ‘I have found it impossible to carry the heavy burden of responsibility as king without the help and support of the woman I love.'

The couple stayed together as Duke and Duchess of Windsor and lived in France and the US.

All sounds very romantic – but why on earth Madonna wants to chance her arm at acting again, we’ll never know!

Excellent, i support her all the way. Madonna was brilliant as Eva Peron and you can't compare her previous acting performances as she was made for the part and it sounds like she would do this one justice too. SHe has learned a lot and grown a lot and i think she should play Wallis Simpson, i'd love to watch it.

This one could be her next big role. She can spark up the screen and give any portrayal her best.
