Heidi Klum naked cover shoot
By Ruth Doherty on Friday 13 February 2009
Heidi Klum has stripped naked for her latest cover shoot, and we think she looks eye-poppingly gorgeous – but, it seems, not everyone agrees.
German supermodel Heidi sizzles on the cover of GQ magazine, but sharp-tongued fashion critics have blasted her as ‘too heavy' to be a fashion model.
Wolfgang Joop criticised Heidi, who hosts the new series of Germany’s Next Top Model, in an extraordinary outburst.
He told Bild: ‘Heidi Klum is no runway model.
‘She is simply too heavy and has too big a bust. And she always grins so stupidly.
‘That is not avant-garde – that is commercial!’
Ouch! Put those fashion talons away.
But he’s not Heidi’s only critic. According to The Sun, model agency head Louisa von Minckwitz said she’s too curvy and too short.
And fashion guru Karl Lagerfeld added salt to the wound, saying: ‘I don’t know Heidi Klum. She was never known in France. Claudia Schiffer also doesn’t know who she is.’
Really? We find that very hard to believe!
We think mum-of-three Heidi looks fantastic – and we’re not the only ones.
‘My husband [Seal] has seen the photos,' she says.
‘I think it’s good to be sexy for your partner.’
And sexy you look, Heidi.

I wish after 3 kids I looked like that! No wonder there are so many eating disorders around with ridiculous comments like those.

Heidi looks absolutely amazing - even more so because she's a mum to three kids. These fashion "gurus" are so out of touch with reality no wonder young girls are starving themselves. Heidi should be held up as a perfect example of womanhood, not the stick-insect lollipops Lagerfeld and model agencies try to make us think is beautiful. Heidi - you rock!

She has a gorgeous body considering she has three kids.
But don't like her hair style on this photo.

Well I think she looks incredible, to say she's too big for the catwalk, well that's just c**p. She looks slim, fit, happy & healthy and if that's big, then it should be the minimum size for catwalk models, as it's a lot nearer to the average woman than those who usually strut their stuff.

Wolfgang Joop , is so shallow. He's caught up in his own little world. I can just imagine him. he's not cool. Germany's next top model???? Have you seen that show. SCARY. Heidi you look FAB. Don't worry about all those wanabee's. XXX

I thought the fashion world was starting to turn for the good, I was obviously wrong. The majority of the catwalk models look wrong, ill and inhuman. They do not represent the image of a normal woman and clothes do not look right on them.
Heidi is a stunningly beautiful woman with a fantastic body. She and models like her should be used more to display the clothing that designers create. The catwalk models in my opinion are very androgynous to the point of being quite disturbing.
If the public shunned the use of models who are obviously too thin, then surely designers would have to change their way of thought.
The average younger woman of today is taller, curvier and larger busted than their previous generation. I ave noticed that the build is becoming almost Amazonian in stature. These women are between a size 12 and 14 and look amazing.

Why should a bunch of gay MEN, (not that there's anything wrong with that), dictate how women should look? She looks better than most women who don't have ANY kids!

OMG!Those people are blind!Being curvy for a mom with 3 kids??That's something to be proud of.. And Heidi Klum looks sexy & gorgeous, unlike all those skinny size 0 models..

Fantastic if all models could be her size we would have a lot less anorexic young girls tying to be like the under fed models that parade the cat walks.
Well done a sight for sore eyes.
Wish I had her body!

It's not even like SHE looks normal! Good, but not normal. It's horrible that we encourage women (and increasingly some men too) to starve themselves! I don't even remember shops stocking a size 6 when I was growing up and now most of them seem to.

How ridiculous! Modern runway models look cachectic, ill and very unattractive. Most surveys indicate men find curvier figures more attractive. I think it is time that the public shun products and brands that promote these unhealthy and unrealistic standards. I encourage everyone to go and watch some movies from the 1950s. The curvaceous figures of Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Betty Grable, and Lauren Bacall are feminine, beautiful and much more realistic representation of a healthy female figure. Its time to embrace curves!

I'm a fashion designer and I wouldn't use a model over a size 10, it's just the way it is , because its harder to dress someone with curves especially with certain fabrics , just a whole lot easier if thinner models turn up.
It is rediculous what they say about Heidi though she looks fine unlike people like Beth Ditto's naked cover, oh and with regards to the 'ill looking models' on the catwallk those girls are in their weight range for their height and have good BMI, if they're not then fair enough.
The whole point of models is to sell the clothes and their job is largely based on appearance so obviously you're not going to want them to be overweight?
Designers make toiles , this toile is scrap fabric , you're going to make it in a small size as it is scrap, you wouldnt bring a fat person into a fitting and buy metres of fabric to make a size 14 or size 16 toile..............
But yes Heidi is lovely :)

We as women have to reclaim OUR beauty. Who died and put all these men-mostly gay men in charge. We need to decide for ourselves whats beautiful.

Always grins so stupidly! I seem to remember in the day of the supers - such as Claudia Schiffer - they all used to grin, and looked like they loved the clothes they were in. Unlike these days, where most of them look like they would rather be anywhere than the catwalk. Heidi Klum looks great.

if shes fat I must be a monster.

If designers don't want to use anyone over a 10, or with a 'large bust' then they're crap at design really.
I think the real talent lies with the likes of designers for high st stores (or the buyers of the ranges) as they have to get the trend, and make it accessable for all.
And lets not forget that the 'top catwalk' designers actually hire trend-spotters. the spotters go around cities looking for ordinary people with fresh styles.
Thats right, the 'top' fashion designers actually leech ideas off everyone else and then give it a glamour.
