Usher wife heart attack during lipo

Usher’s wife was left in a medically-induced coma after suffering a heart attack during plastic surgery.

The singer’s partner, Tameka Raymond, 38, headed to Brazil for liposuction on her stomach two months after giving birth to their second son.

Ellen Dasptry, a rep for Sao Paolo plastic surgeon Dr. Silvio Sterman, who was booked to perform the operation, said: ‘Tameka Raymond came here on Friday to do a liposuction. Shortly after she went under [general] anesthesia, she suffered a cardiac arrest.’

Raymond ultimately never had the procedure, and was placed in an induced coma.

‘When an attack like this happens, the doctors put the patient to sleep... and make sure that everything is okay and that there has not been any damage,’ explains Dasptry. ‘This is the protocol every time and this is what was done.’

On Saturday, Usher cancelled a performance at Clive Davis' pre-Grammy gala to fly to Brazil to be at his wife's side.

Usher's rep Simone Smalls issued a statement on the star's behalf: ‘Tameka Raymond is in stable condition after suffering complications from routine surgery in Brazil.

‘Her husband Usher is with her at the hospital. No further details will be released, and the family requests privacy at this difficult time.’

Some surgeons have suggested Tameka opted to have the procedure too soon after giving  birth.

According to New York City cosmetic surgeon and dermatologist Neil Sadick: ‘The general feeling is no abdominal surgery should be performed within eight weeks because of the distension and inflammation of the abdomen/uterus due to pregnancy.

‘[Women] should wait at least three months postpartum before undergoing any type of procedures to the abdomen.’

I didn't realise was liposuction routine surgery, I always thought routine surgery was something that was necessary but which was done every day....I must be behind the times

This story is so sad yet it just goes to show the pressures we women are under to'compete' and be our absolute best at all times. This is definitely down to men and their shallow perceptions of ideal womanhood. Giving birth is a huge shock to the body and shouldn't be underestimated by women or their partners; it can take at least a year to return to optimum health.
It's time we Sisters stopped being competitive, and united in saying a big NO to non life-enhancing surgery; how many men would bother for US?!!!

when did liposuction become 'routine surgery'??
Comment by KMH on February 13 14:34

Well don't get liposuction then...
Just leave your body the way God intended

Why did a celebrity like Usher opted to allow his wife to fly to Brazil when we have some of the best plastic surgeons within the United States. It's an unfortunate situation. Why did the article ask a dermatologist not a board certified plastic surgeon to comment on this case.
