John Mayer serenades Jennifer Aniston on 40th birthday

What do you buy for the woman who has everything on her big 4-0 birthday? That was the dilemma faced by Jennifer Aniston’s on-off beau, John Mayer, as her milestone birthday approached.

Today the Marley and Me star enters her forth decade and Mr Mayer has come up trumps by preparing his own special serenade for his girlfriend.

A source let the cat out the bag to People magazine revealing Mayer has been working on a little ditty to surprise Jennifer on her big day.

‘He did write a special song just for her for her birthday,’ the source said of the Grammy winner. But there’s no gossip yet on what form the melody takes.

Hollywood’s golden girl reportedly celebrated her birthday a couple of days early on 7 February at her new Beverly Hills home. After some indecision over how to celebrate the day, the ex-Friends star invited a small gathering of Tinseltown pals to help her blow out the candles.

Best friend Courteney Cox Arquette and hubby David were, of course, first in line, followed by Oprah, Sheryl Crow, Tobey Maguire and his wife, Laura Dern, Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson.
