Heath Ledger's life insurance lawsuit finally settled

By Carla Bevan  on Monday 2 February 2009

Marie Claire News: Heath Ledger

An out-of-court settlement has been reached over Heath Ledger's $10m (£7m) life insurance policy.

The lawsuit was started when a lawyer for the actor sued the US firm ReliaStar Life Insurance after claiming it refused to pay out to Heath's three-year-old daughter, Matilda, in order to carry out a further investigation into the manner of Heath's death.

Lawyers for the company wanted to investigate whether the Dark Knight actor's death was suicide, which would nullify the policy.

Details of the settlement are confidential.
