Three arrested over John Travolta extortion plot

Three people have been arrested in the alleged extortion plot surrounding the death of John Travolta's son, Jett.

Paramedic Tarion Lightbourne and politician Pleasant Bridgewater were arrested in the Bahamas over a plan to extort money from the actor following the death of his 16-year-old son.

Obie Wilchcombe, the island's former Minister of Tourism and a friend of the family, was also detained and questioned over the case, although he has now been released.

Since his release, Wilchcombe has spoken out saying that he has never sought any compensation from the Travoltas.

'Never once, asking for anything!  Never once, expecting anything! This is ridiculous and absurd.  The Travolta's are suffering, it's just outright foolish.  Never did I ask for anything, no one can say that,' he told US magazine.

He added: 'We had a friend in my country who lost a son.  It was one single individual [who tried to take advantage of the family], the Bahamian people have been very kind to the Travoltas.'

Lightbourne remains in police custody, while Bridgewater has been released on a $40,000 bail.

The police have not confirmed the details of the plot but it is thought it revolves around a photo taken of John Travolta's son dying.
