The main suspect in the murder of Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and nephew has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson's sister Julia, entered his plea during a court hearing in Chicago.

Following the triple killings of Darnell Donerson, Jason Hudson and seven-year-old Julian King last October, he has been charged with first degree murder and home invasion.

Prosecutors are alleging that Balfour shot them in a jealous rage after finding out Julia had been dating another man.

The bodies of Darnell and Jason were found in the family's South Side home, while little Julian was found three days later in an SUV on the city's West Side.

Balfour is being held without bail and is next scheduled to appear in court on 27 January.
