VIDEO: Ricky Gervais’s Globes Holocaust ‘gag’
The Golden Globes was a night of triumph for the Brits as Kate Winslet led the charge with two gongs – so trust two cheeky English comedians to lower the tone.
While Sacha Baron Cohen received boos for jibes at Madonna and Victoria Beckham, Gervias stunned the audience with a quip about the Holocaust.

As he stepped on to the stage to introduce a clip of British comedy Happy-Go-Lucky, Gervais joked: ‘Sssssh. How rude you lot are, just because you are film stars.’
But his banter became more risqué when he congratulated Kate Winslet on winning Best Supporting Actress for her role as a Nazi prison guard in The Reader.
With a beer in one hand and pointing at the Titanic star, he grinned: ‘Well done Winslet.
‘I told you, do a Holocaust movie and the awards come, didn’t I?
‘Trouble is with Holocaust films is there’s never any gag reel on the DVDs.’
Gervais’s joke referred to Winslet’s 2005 cameo role in his comedy show Extras, during which she joked that she wanted to star in a Holocaust movie to secure an Oscar.
Although some members of the audience who weren’t in on the joke were inevitably left squirming in their seat, Gervais did recieve hoots of laughter.
Unlike fellow comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, who incurred a host of boos from the audience when he used a series of celebrities as the butt of his jokes about the economic crisis.
‘This recession is affecting everyone, even celebrities,’ he said.
‘Victoria Beckham hasn’t eaten for three weeks. Charlie Sheen has been forced to have sex without paying for it, it’s true.’
And as the audience’s jeers failed to deter him, he added: ‘Even Madonna has had to get rid of one of her personal assistants. Our thoughts go out to you, Guy Ritchie.’
Come on, it is a little funny. No? OK, then.
