Who won what at Golden Globes?

It was a celebrity-studded night at the 66th Annual Golden Globes – but it was Kate Winslet’s star that shone the brightest as she picked up not one, but two coveted gongs.

The actress snapped up Best Supporting Actress for The Reader at the beginning of the night, and went on to close the ceremony by bagging Best Leading Actress for Revolutionary Road.

As she accepted the prestigious awards, the British actress became progressively more tearful, and apologised to her fellow nominees - Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Kristin Scott Thomas – before declaring her love for co-star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Turning her attention to Leo, whom she first starred alongside in Titanic, she said: ‘I am so happy I can stand here and tell you I love you, and have for 13 years.’

Winslet also thanked her husband, Sam Mendes, who directed Revolutionary Road, for putting her and DiCaprio ‘through hell every day’.

Heath Ledger proved the most poignant winner of the night, being honoured posthumously with Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for his haunting portrayal of The Joker in the Dark Knight.

His dad, Kim Ledger, who could not attend the ceremony, said: ‘We are overjoyed for him. It’s wonderful.’

Director Christopher Nolan accepted the award on Heath’s behalf, and paid tribute to his friend: ‘On behalf of all of us who worked with Heath on Dark Knight, I accept this with a mix of sadness and incredible pride.

‘He will be eternally missed but he will never be forgotten.’

Other big winners of the night included Mickey Rourke – whose 80s fame had all but died out – who gratefully accepted Best Dramatic Actor for The Wrestler. He acknowledged: 'This has been a really long road back for me.'

Slumdog Millionaire – the movie about a young man in India whose arduous life unfolds during his stint on his country's version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire - was named Best Dramatic Picture.

The film’s producer, Danny Boyle, also won an award, along with its original score and screenplay.

And even those who didn't manage to take home an award, received copious amounts of attention - not least from each other.

Yes, the loved-up Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt - who were both nominated but lost out for Changeling and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - didn't seem too worried as they showcased some serious PDA's thoughout the ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
