Agyness Deyn Dr Who assistant?

Marie Claire Fashion News: Agyness Deyn

Could Agyness Deyn be ditching modelling for the world of TV?

The Brit It-model has been tipped for the coveted role of Doctor Who's sidekick, with producers on the hunt for a 'high-profile' female to star alongside the new doctor, little-known actor Matt Smith.

Executive producer, Piers Wenger, revealed that he was on the hunt for someone who could replicate the success of Billie Piper, who was best known for her music career before taking on the role of Rose in the cult BBC show.

He explained, 'Someone terribly exciting like Billie, who was at the beginning of her acting career but who had a profile for other reasons, would be great. We are looking for someone whose light can burn brightly.'

Other names reportedly on the table include Lily Allen, Kelly Brook and Rachel Stevens.

Fuelling the rumours, Wenger commented on Allen, stating, 'We would never cast anyone on the basis of their celebrity, but if Lily wanted to audition we would be delighted. It would be a lot of fun.'

Brook and Stevens are also possibilities, after becoming high-profile public favourites during their respective appearances on the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

Oh No! Give the job to someone who has talent as an actress who needs a break. Not a model. Pleasssssse.

Not K Brook or Miss Stevens!!!!!! No Agyness would be ideal she is quirky looking in a good way and would make a change. Or failing Lilly Allen with her fab sarcastic nature. Perfect!!

I've nothing against any of these women per se, but why the celebrity casting? Catherine Tate just about proved herself by the end of her run, but (in my opinion anyway) it took a while. Why not just cast someone who's good at acting full stop, like Freema Agyeman?

A talented actress will bring more to the show. People don't watch just for the names on the show. My personal choices would be either Carey Mulligan (Sally Sparrow from the Blink episode) or Jemima Rooper. Both very talented actresses but not overly well known yet
