Jake celebrates 28th birthday with Reese

Jake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon proved they really are celebrityville’s cutest couple while celebrating his 28th birthday together in Santa Monica.

The couple headed to the Il Ristorante di Giorgio Baldi restaurant on Friday night – and Reese Witherspoon threw her head back in fits of giggles and twirled her hair while listening to Jake’s (obviously very funny) stories.

The romantic dinner date lasted nearly three hours, in which time the couple sipped on red wine and sampled small Italian dishes in the dimly-lit glow.

And for dessert? Tiramisu, shared from the same plate (sweet) - after which, the full and happy couple headed home.

Meanwhile, Witherspoon and Gyllenhaal are expected to spend Christmas together, with her children, Ava, 9, and Deacon, 5, before he flies back to Europe to finish filming Prince of Presia: Sands of Time.

And what goes down at a Witherspoon wonderland?’ I have kids so it's a lot about opening presents,’ she told BCC News of Christmas. ‘And then I start cooking, and I really enjoy that part of it. They play with their toys, and I cook some dinner. It's nice.’

But the Four Christmases star doesn’t like to spoil them. She revealed that this year Ava ‘wants a horse’, but she’s unsure. ‘I'm a little strict about that kind of stuff,’ she says. ‘I think kids do best when they only have a couple of things that they really enjoy. I try and stay away from the gluttony of things. They don't appreciate it as much.

'When they only get one or two things, they really like it.’
