Robbie vigil for heart-op mum
Robbie Williams was yesterday by his mum’s bedside after dashing back from LA to be with her when she went into hospital for a heart bypass operation.
The former Take That star is extremely close to his mum Jan, 67, who is thought to be the inspiration behind his smash hit single, Angels, which sold two million copies upon its release in 1997.
Jan was said to be in a ‘critical but stable’ condition last night after undergoing hours of surgery.
A source told The Sun: ‘Like any patient who has undergone major heart surgery, Jan’s not out of the woods yet. She is in a critical but stable condition, but that’s normal for such a complex procedure.
‘Jan was put in intensive care immediately after the operation, where she’ll be monitored extremely closely.
‘She will almost certainly spend Christmas Day in hospital, but if all goes well she might be discharged by New Year.
‘Robbie is desperate to make sure everything goes exactly to plan.’
Jan brought up Robbie – and his sister Sally, 42 - as a single mum after their dad Pete walked out when Robbie was two. She is the one responsible for sending her son to superstardom after spotting an advert for auditions, which ultimately became Take That.
The alien-obsessed star once said: ‘I can’t wish for anything more than I’ve got with my mum and sister. What I’ve got is fantastic.’ And he's since shown his gratitude by buying Jan a £1.2 million home, complete with Andy Warhol masterpieces.
Let’s hope she gets better soon.

Very best wishes to Jan Williams for a speedy recovery from her heart surgery. Hopefully in a few weeks' time she'll be feeling much better than she did before her op. Glad to see Robbie has come over to be with her at this time as she will need lot's of support. Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy 2009 to the family.
