Brits rule Golden Globe nominations
Rex Features
The Golden Globe nominations have been announced and the shortlist is shining favourably on British talent with Kate Winslet, Ralph Fiennes, Emma Thompson and Dame Judi Dench all getting the nod for their performances.
Winslet received a best actress nomination for her portrayal of an aggrieved housewife in Revolutionary Road, as well as a supporting actress nod for the post-World War Two drama, The Reader.
The Brit actress was not alone in her double nomination, however, as Fiennes is also up for two gongs at the red carpet event next January.
Dame Judi Dench and Eileen Atkins have both been earmarked for their powerful performances in BBC TV series Cranford.
It's an all-American line-up in the best dramatic actor category with Leonardo DiCaprio, Mickey Rourke and Brad Pitt all vying for an award. Meanwhile The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon and Meryl Streep's movie, Doubt, are looking likely to win big with five nominations each.
The late Heath Ledger has also been honoured with a nomination for his no-holds-barred performance in this summer's blockbuster, The Dark Knight. Ledger competes in the best-supporting actor category, up against Tom Cruise and Robert Downey Jr.
The biggest news could come from the Brangelina camp where both Ange and Brad may celebrate a double win – both being nominated for best dramatic actor and actress.
Angelina was recognised for her harrowing performance in period drama The Changeling, but faces fierce competition from Anne Hathaway for Rachel Getting Married and Kristin Scott Thomas for I've Loved You So Long.
The annual red carpet do takes place on 11 January. Check back for all the gossip and red carpet style dissection at marieclaire.co.uk.
