Blur confirm they will reform for London gig
It's the news so many fans have been waiting for; Blur have confirmed they will reform to play a one-off gig in London's Hyde Park next summer and already rumours are flying that the group may expand their shows to a handful across 2009.
Arguably the biggest Britpop group of the 90s, Blur disbanded after Damon Albarn and fellow band member Graham Cox fell out, however the pair have buried the hatchet and are set to take centre stage at a gig on 3 July.
The show will see the four-piece group perform together again after an eight-year absence – their last public performance together took place at London's Royal Festival Hall in 2000, before Coxon left the group in 2002.
Speaking to NME, Albarn and Coxon explained their reconciliation: 'Ten years ago Graham and I found ourselves very uncomfortable, very over-sensitive with each other, and it hasn't felt comfortable before now.'
Coxon added: 'We were both carrying some troubles, but it was our group and we didn't want to hurt each other's feelings by saying 'Look I need a break'.'
'It's not that Blur ever stopped, no, we just did other things… '
Albarn continued: 'It just felt it was right again. It somehow feels like there's something for us to do again, we're not completely useless or pointless, we've got a reason to exist.'
Tickets for the gig in Hyde Park will go on sale at 9am this Friday, but if you're unlucky and miss out, Albarn has promised fans that there are more shows on the horizon.
