Coldplay sued for plagiarism

By Carla Bevan  on Monday 8 December 2008

Coldplay is being sued for plagiarism by American guitarist Joe Satriani, who claims the multiple Grammy-nominated Viva La Vida uses 'substantial original portions' from an old song of his, If I Could Fly.

It's not the first time Coldplay has been accused of plagiarism, not even the first time this year, or for this song.

Earlier this year, Creaky Boards – an New York-based band – claimed Coldplay had stolen three seconds of their single, The Songs I Didn't Write, and also used it within Viva La Vida. (The back-up evidence? They reckon Chris Martin was once spotted in the crowd at one of their gigs.)

The best part about the whole curfuffle though, are the hilarious comparison videos currently popping up on YouTube.

I thought up a line one time and heard the exact words in a song. Should I have charged Plagiarism. Words and Lyrics happen, sometimes in different places with same results. Move on people ..
