O.J Simpson jailed for 15 years
O.J Simpson has been sentenced to 15 years in jail and could face consecutive terms of a further 2.5 years behind bars.
The former American football star was found guilty of armed robbery and kidnapping back in October by a unanimous jury, 13 years to the day after his acquittal for the alleged murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ronald Goldman.
The 61-year-old's sentencing refers to an incident in 2007 that took place in a Las Vegas hotel room when Simpson hired five men to hold two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint over items that the ex-footballer says were his possessions.
During sentencing Simpson remained composed as the judge made it clear that he was in no way being judged for previous actions, just those he was currently on trial for – an obvious reference to the media circus that was his previous trial.
Judge Glass said: 'The problem is that I can't ignore that the behaviour at the time… was reckless… A gun was used… property was stolen… and now I will sentence you.'
Simpson made a weak attempt in a muddled court statement to apologise for his actions, saying he had no idea they were illegal, but to no avail.
