Cherie Blair turns down Strictly Come Dancing

Cherie Blair has turned down the chance to appear on Strictly Come Dancing, despite the career renaissance the show's afforded so many of its other contestants.

The former PM's wife was apparently approached some time ago about joining in the Saturday night fun, but thought it wouldn't be 'seemly' for her to participate.

While it was apparently Cherie herself who let the news slip to The Telegraph's Mandrake column, the BBC would neither confirm or deny whether they'd ever considered her a worthy participant.

A spokesperson for the broadcaster said simply: 'Each year we sound out a wide variety of people about their availability and interest in order to ensure we have the best, most entertaining line-up possible.'
