Jamie Oliver is to launch his own bi-monthly magazine, entitled very originally, Jamie Magazine.

Not content with regular TV appearances, dominating the bestsellers lists and lobbying MPs over school dinner menus, the celebrity chef will launch his self-funded mag (thanks to a cool £250,000 sitting in the Oliver bank account) this Thursday.

Exclusive to WH Smith for the first three issues and with an initial print run of 140,000, the magazine will be given a warm and fuzzy feel, with an aim of making readers feel as if ‘they are being invited round to Jamie’s house’, says the mag’s editor, Andy Harris, former editorial director of Gourmet Traveller.

Oliver himself has said he hopes to create ‘a more personal relationship’ and promises it won’t be ‘yet another cooking mag’.

If that’s the case, what can we look forward to in issue one? Well, over 100 recipes apparently, which does rather contradict Jamie’s statement.

But being a celebrity face, Oliver obviously has celeb pals he can call upon, namely his mate Brad Pitt, who features in a Q&A with Oliver in edition one and makes the astounding revelation that Ange is no culinary wizard.

Watch this space to see if Oliver’s new project flies; we wouldn’t recommend, however, that old Gordon follows suit just yet…
