John Sergeant seeks Christmas No1

John Sergeant has recorded a Christmas single with the aim of beating the eventual winner of X Factor into the Christmas No1 spot.

The political pundit, who has become a national treasure thanks to his performances on Strictly Come Dancing, has teamed up with The One Show's Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley; another Strictly contestant.

Let's Not Fight This Christmas - the trio's song of choice - goes on sale on 8 December, a week before the X Factor winner's cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Can he beat Alex, Diana, Eoghan or JLS? A month ago you'd have thought it unlikely, however, a month ago you'd have thought it unlikely he could win Strictly Come Dancing, the distinct possibility of which forced him to duck out of the show last week.

Anything that will stop the oh so predictable X Factor hogging the show, is fine with me. Leona Lewis is the only talent to come from that hyped up show, the rest have faded from our memory. So go for it John!
