Winona Ryder is being investigated over accusations she lost a diamond bracelet worth £81,000, on loan to her for a fashion awards ceremony.

The actress has not garnered the most favourable of headlines in the past few weeks after she collapsed twice on a flight to London, apparently owing to an overdose of tranquilisers.

Now the 37-year-old star is re-living the revelations of her 2001 conviction for shoplifting (for which she was given three years of probation and 480 hours of community service), after the diamond-encrusted bracelet disappeared, despite Ryder’s claim that she handed the jewellery to staff at her Madrid hotel for safekeeping.

However, executives at jewellery brand Bulgari have reportedly called in police, so says French magazine Voici, after hotel management were adamant their surveillance footage showed no signs of the actress handing over the jewels to staff.

A spokesman for Bulgari remained tight-lipped over the allegations, as did a rep for Ryder, who is set to begin filming for her latest movie role in the revamped Star Trek.
