Leona Lewis sings for Barack Obama
By Carla Bevan on Monday 24 November 2008
Leona Lewis will cement her reputation as one of the world's leading singing stars when she performs in a special gig to celebrate Barack Obama's inauguration as US President.
The X Factor winner is in talks to join Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z at special concert in Washington DC next January.
More than a million people are expected to flock to Capitol Hill to see Barack Obama's historic inauguration, making it the biggest crowd Leona will have sung to since the Beijing Olympics closing ceremony.
'Various inquiries have been made to Leona's people about her availability on January 20,' a source tells The Sun.
'She's had such a successful past year that joining in the festivities in Washington would be the icing on the cake for her.
'Her team are going through her diary at the moment.
'They're certainly not averse to shifting things around to accommodate any celebrations for Obama.'
Currently sitting pretty at the top of the album charts again, thanks to the release of her Snow Patrol cover, Run, Leona also holds the record for biggest selling single of the century thanks to the massive success of Bleeding Love.

As much as I like Leona, it really bugs me that she is more over in the US than over in the UK. If it wasn't for the UK fans voting for her in XFactor she wouldn't be where she is now. It didn't go down well at the MOBO's when she wasn't there to get her award, nor at the other award shows that she can't be bothered turning up to. Has she become a diva like Mariah in such a small amount of time - I hope not.
