Jonathan Ross to lose Radio 2 show?

Marie Claire News: Jonathan Ross

Jonathan Ross may lose his weekly Radio 2 slot after BBC bosses reportedly held secret talks discussing how to phase out the broadcaster.

Despite Ross's escape from being sacked after the Andrew Sachs phone call scandal, it seems his career may still suffer a significant blow as the BBC plans to replace Ross with Radio 2 veteran, Sir Terry Wogan.

Sources at the BBC say TV chiefs believe censoring the maverick broadcaster will leave Ross unable to 'give his all' to his Saturday morning radio slot.

'There is still a lot of anger at Radio 2 towards Ross and so his show will be put under the spotlight every time he takes to the air,' said one insider.

'It will be almost impossible for him to enjoy the same kind of show he had before, knowing the bosses will be examining his every word,' they added.

However, broadcast heads at the BBC may struggle to entice Wogan to take up the position after he announced he wished to lessen his workload and take it easier now that he's turned 70.

The source continued: 'The thinking is Tel will take over on Saturday, Ken Bruce will take his slot and Simon Mayo will move into Bruce's weekday show.'

Ross has been suspended until 24 January over the obscene messages he left on actor Andrew Sach's answer machine.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO - this is a terrible idea. Ross is great on his Saturday show. Ken Bruce in a morning instead of Terry - awful!! Ok Ross made a mistake, but come on the girl is question was not exactly whiter than white. Why do loyal listeners have to suffer because some people who didn't even hear the show got offended!

Oh no! Jonathan Ross's Saturday show is one of the highlights of my week! Please don't replace him with Terry Wogan of all people! Much as I like and admire Terry Wogan's style, it doesn't exactly shout "Wake up to the Weekend" does it? Does Radio 2 really want to lose ALL its listeners under 50? It'll take the station back to the fuddy duddy age of the 1980s when no-one with any cred admitted to listening to it. Jonathan Ross was one of the key players to make it the station it is today. They have punished him enough - leave him alone and let his listeners have him back! If the BBC sack him, he'll simply move to the commercial sector and his listeners will go too. I'm sure Absolute will have him like a shot! More fool the BBC. Don't forget that only 2 complaints were received at the time of the broadcast, so the actual listeners did not find the show offensive.

I can't think of anything worse than Ken Bruce first thing in the morning. Bring back Johnnie Walker or give it to Stuart Maconie.

I think Jonathan's radio and tv programme were great and I wasn't offended by the telephone calls, has anybody ever explained where Andrew Sachs WAS when he was supposed to be answering the calls?? Besides we have all heard of his grand daughter now so she has had her (and hopefully last) moment of fame. I hope Jonathan tells the BBC to get stuffed, maybe ITV could do the same as they did for Parky?

I think that everyone has forgotten that Ross and Brand made public Brand's affair with Andrew Sach's grand-daughter, yes I agree she is no angel, however, until I heard the broadcast I wasn't even aware of the affair and I think that to take it out on her grandfather (because he wasn't at home when he should have been) is grossly unfair and extremely unprofessional. I would not wish any affair of mine to be made public in this way and personally I would have started legal proceedings against both of them for their childish actions. As for El Tel taking over on a Saturday morning, why not, but as a replacement I'd like to hear Aled Jones, he's got a terrific sense of humour (not lewd) and anyone who wants to listen to laddish behaviour could always go back to listening to Radio 1.

I just read that when Georgina Bailey was a teenager Andrew Sachs introduced her to a photographer who took topless photos of her. How perverted.
