The extravagent evening was all in aid of the opening of the Atlantis Palm Jumeirah, the world's most expensive resort, which cost £1 billion to build and is situated on a man-made island shaped like a palm tree.

No ordinary hotel launch, entertainment came courtesy of Kylie Minogue, who performed a 45-minute set on the beach, alongside 113 dancers. Earning a reported £1.5million for the gig, the spectacle earnt Miss Minogue an estimated £33,000 a minute.
Following the performance, and the sky was lit up at midnight with a record-breaking fireworks display, which featured £7million worth of computer-guided rockets, making it seven times bigger than the display which opened the Beijing Olympics.
To enjoy the evening's spectacle, there was no shortage of A-list attendees.
From Hollywood, Lindsay Lohan, Mischa Barton, Chalize Theron, Robert De Niro and Mary-Kate Olsen all jetted over.
Adding to the glamorous mix was some of the world's top models, including Agyness Deyn, Daisy Lowe, Petra Nemcova and Yasmin Le Bon.
While the music industry was also well represented, with Janet Jackson, Lily Allen and Shirley Bassey all in attendance.
Many of the stars will now remain in the resort to test out it luxury facilities. The star suite is rumoured to have been bagged by Oprah Winfrey, which is situated on a bridge suspended between the resort's two towers. It costs a massive £25,000 for just one night.
The more modest suites, in which stars such as Lohan and Theron are staying, include the £10,000 a night Lost Chambers, which sit within one of the world's largest aquariums, stocked with 65,000 sharks, rays and fish.
The credit crunch clearly hasn't reached Dubai, if this evening of decadence is anything to go by.
