Ashley Cole to defend privacy

Cheryl and Ashley Cole

Ashley Cole, husband of X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, is due to battle with two newspaper groups over allegations that he cheated on his wife.

His legal team claims that articles printed in newspapers including The Mirror and The Sun contained private information that represented an 'unjustified intrusion' into his personal life.

Ashley's lawyers will argue that the articles have breached his human rights – the same defence used by Max Mosley against claims the Formula 1 boss took part in Nazi-themed orgies.

Mr Mosley was successful in his action against a Sunday newspaper, so Ashley could also win his privacy battle.

The Chelsea and England football star is suing for damages over a number of articles that appeared in January and February this year.

The articles claimed that he had relationships with three women; a hairdresser and two models.

Ashley says he was embarrassed and 'gravely distressed' by the stories, which also upset his pop-star wife. The couple may even appear at the High Court to give evidence during the trial.

Ashley's lawyers will argue that some of the information printed was false and invented, although the privacy action will not make it clear which bits of information are true or false.

In a pre-trial hearing, a lawyer for Mirror Group Newspapers said the couple have repeatedly invaded their own privacy by giving interviews to the press about their relationship, reported The Telegraph.

The trial is expected to last for four weeks and will begin next autumn.

What privacy part did the newspapers breach? Ashley, if you can't keep it in, even with such a gorgeous wife, then you only have yourself to blame!!!! Other girls who you sleep with outside your marriage will always talk for money - cos that's the only way they go with you in the first place - not because they like you!!!! They're after some of your money!!!!
