Kate Winslet misled over fur photos

Vanity Fair has issued an apology to Kate Winslet, after it was revealed that she had posed with real fox fur during its now infamous cover shoot.

The actress was reassured that the fur throw on which she was photographed naked was fake, only to discover that it was real fox fur following the publication of the shots.

The magazine has now blamed 'miscommunication' for the error, after it was revealed that the shoot had included a £11,500 throw by Frette, which was made from the pelts of six silver foxes.

A spokesperson for Vanity Fair stated, 'Although there were both real and fake furs on set, the fur used in the photograph is real. We thought Miss Winslet was aware of this and we're sorry for the miscommunication.'

Winslet has been a long-term opponent to the use of fur, and her publicist confirmed that she had believed the throw to be fake during the shoot.

'She thought it was false. There was apparently false fur there and real fur there, and she definitely understood it was false,' Winslet's publicist commented.

She added, 'Kate never wears fur. She's very, very firm on that.'

The error was first spotted by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA), who contacted the actress to alert her to the mistake.

The group said, 'PeTA has heard from countless celebs that stylists at photo shoots can be rather coy when it comes to fur and whether it's real or not. With so many convincing fakes out there nowadays, it is easy to mistake the dead animals for the fake ones.'

Poor Kate, I bet that makes her really angry. I think maybe to be sure, don't be photographed with any fur at all...real or fake! Then you really can be certain.

Kate is not a stupid girl and EVERY girl knows the difference between real and fake fur so how did this happen - it could NOT happen!! that rug was so obviously real fur even in the photograph - so if she was lying on it, she must have known.

Well, if she doesn't wear fur at all it would be hard for her to tell the difference between the real and the fake! I feel bad for Kate, they should have been honest with her! Especially because she specifically is against the wearing of fur.
