Beyonce Knowles says she nearly suffered a nervous breakdown at the beginning of her career.

Shortly after hitting the headlines with the group Destiny's Child, Beyoncé says she became overwhelmed with her work schedule and the expectations heaped upon her.

'Years ago, I was definitely heading for a breakdown,' the singer confessed to Gotham magazine. 'Just way too much work - my life was my career and I had no other life.'

However, a few platinum albums later and a husband by her side, there's no worries about this diva's health today.

'We were together for a really long time before we got married; we were in no rush,' she said of her recent nuptials. 'We don't have a normal relationship because of our careers. But celebrity or not, you go through the exact same things. We're not perfect.'

What's that? Actually talking about her relationship? Well, not quite.

'This is like my first relationship,' she added. 'I'm very private and, of course, I don't talk about it, but I'm very, very happy. That's all I'll say.'
