He may have fallen out of favour with the BBC, but don't write off Russell Brand just yet – the quirky comedian is in £5 million talks to star in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The 33-year-old actor is being lined up to play Johnny Depp's on-screen brother, Jonathan, which could catapult him into A-list league, just a week after resigning from his Radio 2 show over prank calls to actor Andrew Sachs.

A source told The Sun: 'There couldn’t be a role more perfectly suited. There’s a lot of Jack Sparrow in his mannerisms and behaviour. Depp’s accent isn’t a million miles away from Russell’s either.

'Russell joining the Sparrows alongside Johnny and Keith Richards as their dad will complete the ultimate on-screen pirate family.'

Brand will already be based in LA for the next few months, working on new films and a Comedy Central special. And in his first US stand-up show since the Radio 2 scandal, Russell took a thinly-veiled swipe at Georgina Baillie, the lady at the centre of the BBC phone controversy, telling the audience: 'Burlesque and erotica – I’ve been rethinking it of late.'

wow! i actually think that having russell brand as johnny depp's on-screen brother would be amazing! keith richards and johnny depp are amazing actors and russell joining them with his charisma and hair, it would actually be amazing! i'm so looking forward to it!

I think this is awesome and maybe remove the cloud that is hanging over him at present.
Russel is a fantastic comedian and actor it would have been such a sin for his talents to go to waste over something like this.

i think it will be so totally awsome with russell in the film i mean 2 totally hot guys in the film it couldn't get much better.
