Jennifer Hudson paid her respects to her murdered mother, brother and nephew at a moving memorial service in Chicago last night.

The Oscar-winning actress was accompanied by other family members and close friends to the service, which was held at the Pleasant Gift Missionary Baptist Church near the family's home.

The tragedy unfolded just under a fortnight ago, when the bodies of Darnell Donerson, Hudson's mother, and Jason Hudson, her brother, were found by police. A nationwide search was immediately called to hunt for Jennifer's nephew, Julian. Three days later he was also found murdered.

No one has yet been charged with the deaths, although Julian's father, William Balfour, has been named a 'person of interest' by the authorities.

Speaking of Darnell at the service, cousin Shari Sweat, said: 'She was gentle, special and loving.'

Meanwhile, classmates of Julian had written personal comments for their classroom teacher, Carmen Williams, to read out to the congregation.

A foundation has already been set up by Jennifer and her sister, Julia, to remember their loved ones, with the aim of helping others who find themselves in similarly tragic situations.

The Hudson King Foundation for Families of Slain Victims, is 'to care for the needs of families who have lost relatives to a violent crime', Jennifer wrote on her MySpace page.
