Strictly triumphs at TV Awards

Marie Claire Celebrity News: Tess Daly

The Strictly Come Dancing stars were celebrating last night after beating their X Factor rivals to the title of Most Popular Talent Show at the celebrity-packed National TV Awards.

X Factor judges Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole made joke grimaces as they heard the news, while Strictly's co-presenter, Tess Daly, was obviously over the moon as she held the gong aloft on stage.

Both the show's leading ladies looked fabulous, however, with Tess just pipping Cheryl to the Most Stylish title in her fabulous coral Temperley London spring 2009 flowing gown, which she perfectly accessorised with a thin gold belt. Cheryl, too, looked fabulous in a two-toned Matthew Williamson gown with gold embroidered bust detailing.

X Factor star Simon Cowell may have been disappointed to miss out on the talent show gong, but he didn’t go home empty-handed, picking up a Special Recognition Award presented to him by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Other big winners of the night included EastEnders, which was named Most Popular Serial Drama, and Doctor Who, which beat Desperate Housewives to the Most Popular Drama gong.

Star of Doctor Who, David Tenant, also scooped an Outstanding Drama Performance gong – just as he announced his plans to quit the show.

Other guests at the star-studded bash included Desperate Housewives star Nicollette Sheridan, Paris Hilton, Rachel Stevens, Danni Minogue and Amanda Holden.
