Thandie adds glamour to W premiere

Marie Claire Celebrity News: Elizabeth Banks and Thandie Newton

She never fails to wow on the red carpet, and Thandie Newton – along with Elizabeth Banks – lit up Leicester Square last night at the premiere of new movie, W.

Gorgeous Thandie Newton, who plays Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice in the film, stole the show in a white Chanel cocktail dress with black floral embellishments and a pretty tulle overlay, while Elizabeth Banks, who portrays Laura Bush, opted for old-school glamour and dazzled in a crystal-covered halterneck by Franco Hoffman.

With US elections just around the corner, the film, which is a biopic of American president George W. Bush, played by Josh Brolin, is particularly pertinent.

Talking about the movie, Thandie said: 'I don't get to vote as I'm English but I feel in my small way I did get to vote by making this film.'

But she played down the role the film may have in shaping political opinion, saying:

'Things are changing at the moment, but this film is not going to effect the changes that are necessary.'

She added: 'It was a fantasy, I loved the drama of it.'

But director Oliver Stone said he didn't think George Bush would be watching the movie anytime soon, saying: 'Believe me, he won't be watching this movie,' adding: 'I was not here to demonise him, all I did was fair.'
