Russell Brand death threats

Marie Claire Celebrity News: Russell Brand

He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it seems Russell Brand's straight-talking sense of humour incensed some Americans so much, they issued him a death threat.

The Brit funnyman enraged some American viewers last month when he hosted the MTV Awards in Hollywood – and poked fun at US voters, along with Christian band the Jonas Brothers.

He aimed his quick-witted ridicule at Republican voters with remarks about Levi Johnston, the teenager who got vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's daughter pregnant, saying: 'That is the safe sex message of all time. Use a condom or become a Republican!' He also innocently asked the Jonas Brothers to put their promise rings on their genitals.

Speaking on Chris Moyles' Radio 1 show yesterday, Brand said: 'That was a lot of fun, especially the death threats. If you are going to kill someone, don't give them advance notice, which gives you a chance to prepare.

'These Christian Republicans were watching me and thought, "Well this is no good, I shall do a death threat."'

But Russell, like most other people, thought this was taking things a bit far. He said: 'How can you, while watching the telly, think, "Oh I don't enjoy this, no I'm not enjoying this at all," then think, "Right I'm going to kill him?" That's a huge jump.'

Brand is a ledge! At the end of the day, if the Americans didn't want him hosting MTV awards why did they get him to do it in the first place?AND THEN ask him to do it next year too?
JOKE!
As for the death threats...Whatever.
Leave the man be. He's just doing his job.
He makes us laugh.

Glad he's taking it all in his stride.

What's wrong with people, freedom of speech and all that. If you're offended don't watch. I happen to think he's hilarious and I like it when comedians challenge. A lot fo the time what comedians say is funny b'cos it's true and generally what most people are thinking anyway!!!

Hear, hear! I concur! He was only saying what the rest of the world is thinking!

It's only the American religious fanatics that have a problem with him. Don't think it's all Americans!

American in Scotland who says let Russell Brand live!

Russell Brand is cool !!! He is extremely funny and witty - it shows that some Americans have no sense of humour. What a legend

Wow I think that it's absolutely horrible that we have to come to making fun of peoples religion and moral beliefs to get a laugh. It was inappropriate what he said. He is an idiot. I can not believe that the world is coming to a point where you have to have sex and all that to be a "cool" person.
