Madonna and Guy Ritchie have only just announced they're set to divorce – but friends are already suggesting that Madonna is planning to conceive again with baseball star Alex Rodriguez.

Although there is no evidence the pair have enjoyed a physical relationship to date, a source told the Daily Mail the singer is planning a future with Alex, dubbed A-Rod, and thinks he has perfect physical father potential.

A friend said: 'She thinks he's physically a great specimen. And if she is going to have another child, he would be the ideal man to bring one to her.'

Rumours have been flying for the past few months that the singer is enjoying a secret relationship with the sports star, and that they will go public with their feelings over the coming months.

Rodriguez shares Madonna's passion for the Jewish religion, Kabbalah, and has promised to help spread its word, including writing a range of sports-themed books to bring the message of Kabbalah to young boys.

He's also planning to join her on a spiritual trip to Malawi after her Sticky & Sweet world tour finishes.

The pair were spotted enjoying dinner last week in New York, and have been seen returning to Madonna's apartment together on a number of occasions.

Meanwhile, the split between the singer and Guy Ritchie looks set to turn into a bitter battle, with mudslinging already going into overdrive.

Madonna's four-hour a day exercise regime has been cited as one of the reasons behind the split, with reports suggesting the couple hadn't had sex for 18 months and, according to a friend, when they did make love, Ritchie complained it was 'like cuddling up to a piece of gristle'.

Another bone of contention was Madonna's devotion to Kabbalah, with which Ritchie was becoming increasingly disillusioned.

The source said: 'Guy thinks it is just mumbo jumbo. He was appalled she wanted the religion to intervene.'

Film producer Ritchie is also said to be resigned to the fact that Madonna will begin openly dating Rodriguez at the end of her tour.

Are these'friends' forgetting that Madonna is 50? Highly unlikely she is even able to conceive.

Good point Rachel, maybe she's had some of her own frozen! Maybe this has stemmed from the mention that she wanted to adopt again. And if Guy wanted to say those comments about their sex life then what's wrong with that? We don't know who's said them. He probably told someone in confidence, not his fault the comments got out. Everyone's allowed a moan now and then are they not.

She's too old to have a baby. At her age she if she is still ovulating the eggs are very likely not viable. And she ain't gettin any younger folks. The hormones have changed, just like every other 50 year old woman.

I just feel sorry for her it seems that ultimately the only person she has in this world is herself and that relationships are just some form of pastime, she has got to be the shallowest person alive!
