Michelle Williams' new love

Marie Claire News: Michelle Williams

Michelle Williams and Spike Jonze have obviously tired of keeping their budding romance behind closed doors, and on Wednesday night, allowed photographs to catch them holding hands as they left the New York premiere of their new film, Synecdoche.

Rumours had been circulating for some time that the pair were an item, but both parties seemed keen to keep it under wraps - until this week, that is.

'He couldn't seem to keep his hands off her,' an onlooker at the Mulberry-sponsored after-party told People.com. 'It was very cute.'

Director and producer Jonze was previously married to Sofia Coppola and is most famous for his Oscar-nominated film Being John Malkovich. He first met Williams when she auditioned for him back in 2006 for Where The Wild Things Are, but reunited on the set of Synecdoche, which Spike produced.

After a heart-breaking year, following the death of Heath Ledger, the father of Michelle's daughter Matilda, the star's fortunes are certainly on the up. As well as her new relationship, her performance in Synecdoche is already generating Oscar buzz, not to mention rave reviews for her other recent releases, Incendiary and Wendy and Lucy.

GOOD LUCK TO THEM BOTH. I THOUGHT SHE WAS A BETTER ACTRESS IN DAWSON'S CREEK THAN KATIE HOLMES (KATIE HOLMES IS ONLY MAKING A NAME FOR HERSELF THROUGH HER MARRIAGE TO TOM CRUISE).

THINK MICHELLE WILLIAMS IS A GREAT ACTRESS AND SENSITIVE PERSON.

I am delighted for Michelle, she deserves to be happy after such a sad year for her and Matilda.

All the best
