Guy and Madonna custody battle

Marie Claire News: Madonna & Guy Ritchie

Madonna and Guy Ritchie might be about to enter a £300 million divorce war but, according to reports, it's not money that will be the couple's main bone of contention - it's the children.

The singer is said to want to raise her three children, Lourdes, Rocco and David, in New York, but Englishman Guy wants them grow up in London and Wiltshire - and is reportedly upset at Madonna for wanting to whisk them off to the States.

A source told the Daily Mail: 'Madonna wants them to be brought up in the cosmopolitan environment of New York.

'Guy wants them to continue growing up in London and Wiltshire, being privately educated in Britain.

'This has been the major stumbling block as to why their lawyers have not been able to negotiate an out-of-court settlement.

'Rocco is Guy's beloved little boy. They do everything together. He adores him. He wants him to be a Londoner.

'The idea that he will be across the Atlantic from him most of the time is really tearing him apart.'

While Madonna has armed herself with one of the most formidable divorce lawyers in Britain, Fiona Shackleton, the woman who represented Prince Charles and Sir Paul McCartney in their high-profile divorces, Guy has procured himself an equally impressive representative: Helen Ward.

Helen secured a £48 million payout - the largest ever in Britain - for Beverly Charman, the ex-wife of an insurance big-wig.

It looks set to be a battle of rather large proportions, but let's hope it doesn't turn in to a media circus like the McCartney-Mills mayhem.

Guy should have his son at least.

I think they're rich enough for joint custody - she has them in New York with a private tutor for a month, then tutor and kids fly to London to be with Guy for a month. Or else, yes, Guy should have his own kid at least.

You simply cannot educate children like that - a month in NY, a month in London, then back for a month in NY. Kids need stability and friends to learn. In law, quite rightly, it's about the childrens' needs, NOT what the parents want. The parents need a stable environment, stable education and easy access to Mum & Dad. Madonna can commute.

Yes - I agree - Guy should have his own little boy permanently with him. Madonna is a selfish little tart, with no morals, look at the way she slated Sarah Palin at one of her concerts recently, calling her f**king bitch, what gives her the right to shout that?? She is only expected to sing at her sticky and sweet tour, not express her opinion, only she has to flirt and taunt and flaunt her horrible body (look at those boxer legs!!!)and then come out with a tirade of horrible words. I have never ever bought any of her songs, or attended any of her concerts, thank you - she does nothing for me!!! I despise the way she used RC religion - which she is - to her own ends, cavorting with crucifixes, black Jesuses, and ranting at the Pope, because he wouldn't baptise her children!!! Can you blame him???? She is a joke - the last person to mock the holy name of the Madonna - the pure and innocent Mother of Christ, and in that she is defiling her dead mother!!!
