Jason Donovan reveals Kylie secrets

Marie Claire news: Jason Donovan and Angela Malloch

Jason Donovan has finally dished a bit of dirt about his first love Kylie Minogue – and says the couple spent their first night of passion in a Travelodge in Sydney.

In an interview for Piers Morgan’s programme The Dark Side of Fame, he revealed: ‘It was practical and had a bed and a telly.’

The once-idolised pop star told how Kylie dumped him over the phone without giving him a full reason, only to find out later that she was involved with INXS star Michael Hutchence.

‘She rang me one night and I could tell something was wrong and she said it was over - in reality that was probably the best way to do it because I couldn't accept it at the start.

‘I don't see it as humiliating, if you're going to lose someone you might as well lose them to Michael Hutchence. In anyone's life the first relationship is potent, it's something you never forget for the rest of your life.’

Jason, who shot to fame as fresh-faced Scott Robinson in Aussie soap Neighbours, also talked about his spiral into drug abuse – and how he once passed out at Kate Moss’s 21st birthday party at the Viper Room in LA, where Michael Hutchence was performing.

He said: ‘If you wanted to be anywhere on the earth you wanted to be at Kate Moss's 21st. I was this little guy from Melbourne, Jason, Joseph, Scott Robinson, sitting there going "wow, this is amazing".

'There I am on the dance floor. My brain slowly starts to lose focus and my instant reaction with that was always to go to the ground, because that is where you are going to end up, so I went to the ground and at that point I passed out and seized.

'A seizure does not look good and I think they probably stopped the song and thought they had another River Phoenix.

'I remember, I think, Michael sort of clearing my pockets of any gear I might or might not have had. I was very lucky.’

He said the experience didn’t put him off drugs and that he later simply ‘got back on it’.

In 1998 Jason started touring with The Rocky Horror show, where he met his wife, tour manager Angela Malloch. They started dating but his cocaine habit tore them apart. The saving grace was when Angela revealed she was pregnant and offered Donovan an ultimatum to be a part of it, or leave with no financial ties.

Angela gave birth to Jemma in March 2000, of which he said: ‘It turned my life around, and what an incredible gift.'
