Marie Claire Celebrity News: Brad Pitt and George Clooney

Brad Pitt has donated $100,000 to help promote same-sex marriage.

The father of six is backing California's anti-proposition 8 campaign, which seeks to ensure a bill attempting to make same-sex marriages illegal in the state doesn't get made law when it goes to the vote in November.

In a statement, Brad said: 'Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8.'

The sizable donation is the largest so far by a high-profile celebrity, but could yet pave the way for more stars to back the cause.
