Brad Pit and Angelina Jolie - BIG

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have hit the top of the Hollywood power list - toppling Tom Cruise and Jennifer Aniston from prime position.

Brad and Ange knocked Brad's ex-wife Jennifer off the hot seat through a combination of internet searches, press stories and earnings, according to the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records, making them, officially, the Most Powerful Actor and Actress in Hollywood.

Other new world records saw Samuel L. Jackson become the Highest Grossing Actor, bringing in a whopping £4.1 billion through the 68 movies he's made over the years, while Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have become the Most Lucrative Hollywood Partnership after grossing £550 million from six movies together. The Sugababes also became the first group to get to No. 1 in the charts on net download sales alone with their hit, About You Now, while Britney Spears was named the most searched for person on the internet.

Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have harnessed their celebrity power, and donated a hefty £1.1 million to build a children's hospital in Ethiopia.

The clinic will care for children suffering with tuberculosis, HIV and AIDS, in the birthplace of their adopted daughter, Zahara, 3.

The generous couple have already set up a similar centre in Cambodia, where their seven-year-old adopted son, Maddox, hails from.

'It is our hope when Zahara is older she will take responsibility of the clinic and continue its mission,' said Brad and Angelina in a statement.

'Our goal is to transfer the success we have had in Cambodia to Ethiopia where people are needlessly dying of tuberculosis, a curable disease, and HIV/AIDS, a treatable disease.'

They added: 'The fact that poor people continue to die in our world today of TB, a curable disease, because of lack of access to drugs and care, is unacceptable.'

I have long admired this couple for their efforts to eliminate suffering and poverty especially among children. I am a single Mom myself but will be a nurse next year and hope to start adoption proceedings for a little girl from China. In the meantime, I sponsor a little girl in Africa. We can do what we can with what we have -- Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt ARE truly a very powerful couple in terms of LOVE --the most powerful force in the world!
