Johnny Depp is gearing up to take on the eerie role of The Riddler in the next batman movie, according to Michael Caine.

The veteran actor, who plays Batman’s butler in The Dark Knight, may find himself in hot water with the movies’ makers, Warner Bros, after letting the revelation slip.

And, not only did he reveal that the quirky Johnny Depp is to bring The Riddler to life, he also confirmed that Oscar-winner Phillip Seymour Hoffman is lined up to play The Penguin.

According to Perez Hilton, he revealed: ‘I was with [a Warner Bros.] executive and I said: “Are we going to make another one?”

‘They said, “Yeah”. I asked: “How the hell are we going to top Heath [Ledger]?” And he says: “I’ll tell you how you top Heath — Johnny Depp as The Riddler, and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin.”

‘I said: “S**t, they’ve done it again!”’
