Marie Claire Celebrity News: Brad Pitt and George Clooney

The Venice Film Festival has officially opened with the world premiere of the Coen brothers' latest offering Burn After Reading.

The stars of the dark comedy and best pals, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, took to the red carpet in the Italian city last night to add a little A-list glamour to proceedings.

Both actors hovered for pictures together and signed autograph books for the endless fans who lined the red carpet.

The star-studded night saw actresses Tilda Swinton and Frances McDormand – who both star in Burn After Reading - join the A-list throng.

Prior to the premiere screening, Brad Pitt picked up an award that he won in Venice last year, the Best Actor's prize for The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

The actor joked as he accepted his belated award: 'You can run but you can't hide. It was an honour to receive this last year and it remains an honour to accept this this year.'

Earlier in the day at a press conference for the movie with Brad and George, Brad revealed the latest additions to his brood, twins Knox and Vivienne, 'are fine'.

When quizzed about whether George planned to finally settle down and have children, the 47-year-old replied: 'I am so surprised to hear that question. This honestly is the first time I've ever been asked that question. I'm getting married and having children today,' he joked.

Brad chipped in adding: 'And until then, I'll be sharing mine with him.'
