Gold Kate Moss statue displayed

Marie Claire Celebrity News: Kate Moss statue

A solid gold statue of Kate Moss will be on display in a new exhibition at the British Museum.

The sculpture by artist Marc Quinn is worth £1.5 million, and will form part of collection entitled Statuephilia, which brings together works by contemporary artists.

Entitled Siren, the 50kg piece is sad to be the largest gold statue to be created since the era of Ancient Egypt.

This is the second time that the artist has depicted Moss in his work. He created a bronze sculpture of the supermodel entitled Sphinx, which depicted her in a yoga pose.

Speaking to the Telegraph, Quinn explained his choice of muse, 'I thought the next thing to do would be to make a sculpture of the person who's the ideal beauty of the moment.'

Fittingly, the statue will be displayed in the museum's Nereid gallery, where it will be surrounded by other icons of beauty, such as the Crouching Venus.

The exhibition will run from 4 October until 25 January 2009, and will also feature pieces by Damien Hirst and Anthony Gormley, amongst others.

Well for someone like Kate Moss to be in gold is sending the wrong message to the younsters of today. She is a drug addict and has been caught and what kind of role model is she?
